How to Build a DIY Nintendo Arcade

Don’t we all love the classic Nintendo and it’s 8 bit glory? This main built his own tabletop arcade setup for the NES which allows him to emulate NES games on Windows. The system can also serve as a regular PC by hooking up a keyboard and mouse. If you’re interested in build your own arcade, you can buy the joystick and buttons pretty cheap on eBay. Heck you could even make an illuminated joystick if you want.

Physical Punch-Out Interface for the NES

People are getting extremely creative with innovative ways to physically interact with game consoles. These hackers combined one of the greatest NES titles, Punch-Out with a boxing dummy to add interaction to the old classic. This hack involves adding arcade buttons to a boxing dummy and interfacing it with a hacked NES controller. The tutorial details the various buttons placed on the dummy to control dodging and punches to the head and body.

How to Emulate any Nintendo Console

Whether it’s the old school NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) all the way to the Wii, any Nintendo console can be emulated in Windows.Â� To find games for these emulators, search “console name roms” on Google.Â� If you’re looking for simulators for Playstation, Atari, Xbox, etc, see our emulator database.

NES

There are plenty of NES emulators out there, but Nestopia is our favorite.Â� Simple interface with thousands of games avaliable.Â� See all of our NES hacks and projects.

SNES

ZSNES is a fantastic emulator (even though its interface is weird).Â�Â� Here’s a great ZSNES tutorial and download it here.

Gameboy/Advanced

This hasn’t been updated for a while, but it works great. Â� For now, you can download VBA here.

Nintendo 64

Project64 has been around for a while and is continually improved.Â�Â� You can download it here.

Nintendo DS

DeSmuME works best, but has a few bugs.Â� There is also iDeaS, but I have been told DeSmuME is slightly better.

Gamecube & Wii

Dolphin is the only emulator I know of for GameCube or Wii games – It works well for the games we tested it on.

Easily Connect a Wiimote to your PC

NES, Buttons, LCD, plus Mario inside the Cartridge

Inside a NES Cartridge sits a NOAC (Entire NES and 99 games on a chip), speakers, all standard buttons, and an LCD screen. It took about a month to build, a few battle scars, but it looks pretty excellent. View more about the build and discuss it here.
