<h3>R2D2 Innards:</h3>
<p>We can take a look at the guts of the system (minus the projector) and see the wild mess of cables, fans, and retro consoles.  It&#8217;s definitely a fantastic feat of engineering to get all of them to fit in such a small space and then have an R2D2 head-mount projector and built in sound system to work on top of it all.  Take a look at some of our related Star Wars projects:</p>

<p>Super Nintendo (SNES) still has fans worldwide &#8211; Who doesn&#8217;t love the retro consoles? Thanks to <a href="http://hacknmod.com/hack/how-to-emulate-any-nintendo-console/">SNES emulators</a>, the Super Nintendo is still alive and kicking in some corners of the game world.</p>
<p>Emulation of the SNES is now available for a number of console platforms. <a href="http://www.snes9x.com/">Snes9x</a> for example is a portable, freeware SNES emulator. Snes9x is coded in C++ for Linux and Windows. Many ports of Snes9x are easily available. <a href="http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Snes9x_GX">SNES 9xGX</a> specially, is a Super Nintendo emulator for the Wii based on the SNES9x.</p>
<p>But this hack could be the very first homebrew emulation for the Xbox360. The <a href="http://debugmo.de/?p=108">innovative project</a> used the SNES9X GX emulator ported to the Xbox360. OS dependence was bypassed by using Libxenon (which is a library for writing programs for the Xbox 360). The end result, as the video shows is a success. The GUI may not be eye pleasing but you sure can get those old games back into action on your <a href="http://hacknmod.com/topics/xbox_360/">Xbox360</a>.</p>
<p>Go back in time with some of our retro-hacking emulation projects –</p>

<p>People are getting extremely creative with innovative ways to <a href="http://hacknmod.com/hack/infrared-head-tracking-for-the-wii/">physically interact with game consoles</a>. These hackers combined one of the greatest NES titles, Punch-Out with a boxing dummy to add interaction to the old classic. This hack involves adding arcade buttons to a boxing dummy and interfacing it with a hacked NES controller. <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/The-Punchout-Interactive-Interface-Improved/">The tutorial</a> details the various buttons placed on the dummy to control dodging and punches to the head and body.</p>

There really are <a href="http://www.neatorama.com/case-mod/index.php" target="_blank">no limits</a> in the world of case modding.  Who the heck comes up with the idea to use a toaster as a SNES case anyways?  The same person also stuffed a <a href="http://www.stupidfingers.com/projects/nintoaster/" target="_blank">NES inside a toaster</a> too.  The creator gives a step by step guide for building the system.   There&#8217;s a video demo below as well.</p>
<p>As it is a dual slice system, he was tempted to incorporate both the SNES and NES in the same machine. However, he ended up just sticking with the SNES instead.<br />
<center><object width="550" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0fsbYJNMf-Q&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0fsbYJNMf-Q&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="550" height="355"></embed></object><br /></center></p>
<p><strong>The Build:</strong><br />
Simple building materials are all you really need.  A Super NES, a few adhesives, magnets <a href="http://hacknmod.com/hack/salvage-rare-magnets-from-a-hard-drive/">ripped from a broken hard drive</a>, a bunch of resistors, six <a href="http://hacknmod.com/store/index.php?act=viewCat&amp;catId=3">orange LEDs</a>, plexiglass, and some spare wire. He used the temperature control knob of the toaster on the front to dim the orange LEDs. And guess what? It won’t burn your cartridges.  Full <a href="http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&amp;t=28971" target="_blank">project details</a>.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">ZSNES is a fantastic emulator (even though its interface is weird). Â  Here&#8217;s a <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.fantasyanime.com/emuhelp/emuhelp_zsnes.htm" target="_blank">great ZSNES tutorial</a> and <a title="download zsnes" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.zsnes.com/" target="_blank">download it here</a>.</p>
<h3>Gameboy/Advanced</h3>
<h3><img class="aligncenter" title="emu51" src="http://www.hacknmod.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/emu51.png" alt="emu51" width="488" height="366" /></h3>
<p>This hasn&#8217;t been updated for a while, but it works great.   For now, you can <a rel="nofollow" href="http://vba.ngemu.com/downloads.shtml" target="_blank">download VBA here</a>.</p>
<h3>Nintendo 64</h3>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="size-full wp-image-2411 aligncenter" title="emu3a1" src="http://www.hacknmod.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/emu3a1.jpg" alt="emu3a1" width="450" height="378" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Project64 has been around for a while and is continually improved. Â  You can <a title="download project64" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.pj64-emu.com/downloads/project64/binaries/" target="_blank">download it here</a>.</p>
<h3>Nintendo DS</h3>
<h3><img class="aligncenter" title="emu61" src="http://www.hacknmod.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/emu61.png" alt="emu61" width="264" height="430" /></h3>
<p><a rel="nofollow" href="http://desmume.org/download/" target="_blank">DeSmuME</a> works best, but has a few bugs.  There is also <a title="download ideas emu" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.ndsemulator.com/nintendo-ds/ideas.htm" target="_blank">iDeaS</a>, but I have been told DeSmuME is slightly better.</p>
<h3>Gamecube &amp; Wii</h3>
<h3><img class="aligncenter" title="emu4a1" src="http://www.hacknmod.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/emu4a1.jpg" alt="emu4a1" width="450" height="352" /></h3>
<p><a href="http://www.dolphin-emu.com/downloads.php">Dolphin</a> is the only emulator I know of for GameCube or Wii games &#8211; It works well for the games we tested it on.</p>

Inside a NES Cartridge sits a NOAC (Entire NES and 99 games on a chip), speakers, all standard buttons, and an LCD screen. It took about a month to build, a few battle scars, but it looks pretty excellent. View more about the build and discuss it <a href="http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.phpt=24946">here</a>. For more portable console fun, be sure to check out the rest of <a href="http://www.benheck.com">Ben Heck&#8217;s site</a>. In case you&#8217;ve been living under a rock the last five years or so, he has been turning consoles into laptops and handhelds for years. Below is the on off switch, and hole in the back for the speaker.</p>
