The mechanical iris was originally a steampunk project we featured a while back. Not surprisingly, the sheer beauty and mechanics of it is inspiring a lot of similar builds such as the knock-detecting garage door opener. Now, in the creative hands of the same artist, the mechanical iris finds its place a wood and brass door.
The mechanical iris drew inspiration from Jules Verne’s Nautilus. The brass and wood door has a multiple bolt mechanism that’s operated by a handwheel. Above it, the mechanical iris is the peephole which you can open and close with a smaller handwheel.
