Sometimes, your inventions don’t have to have a practical function. Take for example, this epic looking decorative lamp. Dubbed ‘Coachella’, this eye-catching device was named for an annual music and arts festival. Although it has a steampunk vibe, there’s some serious electronics under the hood. It”s built entirely of vintage lighting gadgets: The ultra-violet glow on the top is from an Argon discharge lamp and the central column is illuminated with green and blue LEDs encased in an acrylic case.

The finishing touches come from the four dekatrons mounted on the acrylic column. Finally, the four corners of the wooden base are decorated with Nixie tubes. The lamp is powered from a standard 120VAC wall socket and the light display control is through an Arduino. Absolutely fantastic results!
