The optical mechanism of a human eye is a incredibly complex. This robotic eye has not only duplicated the rapid motion of the eye, but it even moves 5 times faster! The tiny mounted optical system follows a human’s eye movements and duplicates them using a superfast actuator-driven mechanism. The system is controlled by a customized eye-tracker which monitors the person’s eye movements and moves the piezo actuators. The mimicked movements are as precise as our own with the same yaw, pitch, and roll rotation.
The robotic eye can move at a speed of 2500 degrees per second. Compare that to the human eye at 500 degrees per second. The under development prototype is tiny and lightweight making it ideal for a head mounted system.
