- Don’t miss: How-To: Avatar Style Fiber Optic Pandora Jungle
Home 3D TV is set to take the world by storm this year since the World Cup is being broadcast through the medium. However, did you know that for a few hundred bucks you too could be filming in 3D? Indeed my friends

As these tech enthusiasts demonstrated, it’s quite easy to make a DIY 3d movie by recording with two cameras simultaneously. This will enable you to use some video software later on to overlap the images, thus rendering it viewable through 3D glasses. As you can see from the picture above, the components are fairly simple with the most expensive parts being the cheap HD cameras, naturally.
Materials:
- Kodak Zx1 Digital Camcorders
- L-Shaped Extruded Aluminum
- Nylon Washers, Wingnuts, Machine Screws
- Basic Tripod
An example video is below. If you have a pair of 3D glasses, let us know how it looks in the comments below.

I am wearing a pair of Real D 3d glasses i received from the avatar 3d movie. In no way shape or form does this video look 3d through these glasses.

Strange. Perhaps it’s because avatar is in the “new” 3d and this looks like the older 3d style with the red and blue lenses. Perhaps someone else knows more about the technology.

Avatar was filmed in polar 3d. There are actually 2 screens and the glasses are polarized in only 1 eye to see through the first screen so you see a different image with each eye. This is the old style where you need the red and blue glasses

Ah, thanks for the details Dan.

I’ll take a look at it though my Red and Blue glasses later. I’m pretty sure I have a pair lying around.

Actually 3d (at home) nowadays works by dividing the frame rate of the screen by 2, half the frames show the left image and the other half the right. So in order to create a 30fps 3d film you need a 60fps movie and at least 60hz screen.
the glasses that nvidia makes prevents one of the eyes from seeing the image that is intended for the other one. This is as close as you can get to 3d movies and games at home. Cinema movies are something else though..
