We have featured quite a few DIY CNC Plotters, but when it comes to etching precision printed circuit boards, this DIYer things lasers are the way to go. RepRap (Replicating Rapid Prototypes) are open source 3d printers which can replicate their own parts.
Learn how to use the RepRap platform adapted with a burning laser pointer: See the full steps outlined project details. The software used for etching was programmed using cad.py and the laser mounted on the X-axis of the RepRap did the rest.

This seems like a great method, however the absence of photos of an actual etched circuit board raises the question: does this really work? Making smoke come off the board is one thing, but burning off the paint entirely is something else. The hot glue mount and lack of focusing optics on the laser are also suspicious.
