Using an old suitcase, a laptop, X10 home automation parts and an Arduino set-up, this guy managed to build a fully-functional magic mirror suitcase. Basically, it’s an interactive mirror which reacts to it’s environment using various sensors…BUT it can also be used to view stock updates, weather forecasts, and more!
How to Build it:
First, the author found a 15†LCD screen and placed it in front of a hole cut in the suitcase. To stop people from seeing the whole monitor and thus create the an illusion, he cut out a cardboard barrier and placed it around the opening.
He then used Arduino and an X10 sensors set up to hook up the laptop with the switches on top of the suitcase. By flicking one of these switches you can get stock reports, weather forecasts and a greeting from the inhabitant of the magic mirror.

The remainder of the build was installing the software which will enable the Arduino and X10 to control the on-screen character. This is all available on the full tutorial guide. A great mod of an already fabulous project and a very well written guide on how to do it. Check out a similar project from the same creator – the wall-mounted version.
