How to get the prize ($1500 $2340)
Complete one (or several) of the tasks above and let the world know! Post your source code on GitHub and paste links to your pictures and videos in the comments below (or email us). All work must be documented under an open source license. The first person or group to successfully complete a fully functional task above wins the corresponding prize. Great idea but you should make this more social. If I want to donate $20, let me do that. That way it’s not 1500, it’s as big as people will donate.

Kickstarter campaign, anyone?
August 22nd, 2011
@Rich – Donation button is now available in the post above
August 22nd, 2011
@Joe L – Done! If you are going to benefit from this (and just saved 400 bucks) throw a few bucks at this!
August 22nd, 2011
How long do you experts think this will take?
August 23rd, 2011
@Josh Hopefully they take it a good challenge and make it happen
I know I would like to get ICS on my new TP
August 23rd, 2011
It’d be cool if we could subscribe to this post for updates on if the goals are met. Kickstarter is a good idea as well.
August 23rd, 2011
Gonna kick in a few bucks. Hopefully everyone else that scored a touchpad this weekend will as well and the prize can grow.

Why not use http://www.power2people.org
This proven donation and bounty system has helped AROS (an alternative operating system – http://www.aros.org) to improve a lot in the past couple of years.
Besides, it was made specifically for open source projects.

just donated $25 ..hope it helps
August 23rd, 2011
Guys, how about a Task to make USB port as USB Host usable. I will donate to that.
August 23rd, 2011
Please only give out the rewards for good results. I hate to see someone get the reward because they rushed and got at half-baked solution rather than going for quality.
August 24th, 2011
this might be a stupid question but since androids screen ratio for tabs is bigger then the touchpad why not attempt a webOS to wp7 conversion? Hardware would work, office preloaded, and access the xboxlive arcade for games.plus physical hardware a windows phone 7 system has only 1 physical button. So does the touchpad.
August 25th, 2011
Is this Honeycomb or any Android version??
Would be difficult with older versions as there are not enough hard buttons (home/menu/back etc)
August 25th, 2011
Geoff , I agree, WP7 Would be pretty cool but I like the versatility of Android, plus the tons of roms available to keep it new feeling.
August 25th, 2011
@Coolius: Ideally Honeycomb, yes.
August 26th, 2011
I’d like to suggest formalizing the tasks a bit more.
This way it will be less of an individual decision from your side who gets it and more of a “does it live up to this checklist of things”
Basic Android Port is very broad, since it could mean just booting android to home screen with no sensors, no touchscreen, no sound etc. It could also mean that basic touchscreen would have to work and sensors… In essence, it’s not clear what is required at all.
Minimal android version would also be useful to have specified!

The Individual Contributions ammount should be automatically updated to relect the latest contributions. I just donated $10.00
August 26th, 2011
@PBMax – We update it daily.
August 26th, 2011
@RaYmAn: Good points, we’ve updated it to be more specific. Don’t worry, we’ll only award the money to those which live up to quality expectations.
August 26th, 2011
Just donated $5..I am in for more if i see some positive results in 1 month or so. I have ordered 4 devices so looking forward to Install android on all of them..
August 27th, 2011
I donated $5.00 and i do not have my hp touchpad yet but i hope it helps.
August 31st, 2011
It’d like to donate towards the, currently impossible, task of getting Honeycomb or future tablet-specific versions of android on the touchpad. That way, when Google releases the source code, there’s already an incentivizing reward in place to motivate developers.
August 31st, 2011
Come on folks…$5? We need to motivate developers, and you’re not going to put anyone in high gear w/ petty cash like $2,300.
I donated $175 total, and that’s still a steal for a kick butt Android tablet.
If we all made serious donations ($50+), this would be up to like $15,000 easy…and $15,000 is enough to get the smart people off the couch.

Cyanogenmod has created a alpha version of android. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c20yOVKm5UM
September 5th, 2011
Just a suggestion for features, to increase the willingness of a user to contribute to the bounty.. but how about adding “Dual Boot with WebOS” as one of the tasks.
September 6th, 2011
@Dave – Great idea. We’ll do that.
September 10th, 2011
I second Dave, I’ve never used WebOS before buying my touchpad and am very interested in running Android when this is all said and done, but I would love the ability to dual boot.
October 5th, 2011
Everything on the list is almost complete. Cyanogenmod has almost completed a dual boot (webos and android) with their CM7 ACME Installer. They have wifi, market, bluetooth, dual core, 10-point multitouch, sound, etc supported. I believe they are still working on camera support.
For anyone waiting on the android app emulator I dont believe they are focusing on this.
October 19th, 2011
I just donated $20 It’s not much but I hope it helps.
You are doing a great job.
