These super-sleek, conch shell-shaped tower speakers were inspired by a similar design called “Odyssey” speakers. These “Odyssey 2″ speakers are handmade from the ground up and took the artist about 400 hours to fabricate the conch shaped towers. While you probably aren’t willing to blow 400 hours of life to build these, we’re posting it to inspire your custom speaker builds.

The larger shell skeleton is shaped from wood with steel inserts for support and then lined with polyester fabric. The mid and high range speakers are carved out of wood in a lathe machine. What’s noteworthy is the careful work that has gone into the cavities of the speaker. For instance, the cavities have been reinforced with polyester fiber to prevent the wood expanding in the future.

Is it just me, or does the guy in the picture have a soul-piercing stare?
The three shells are joined and placed on a pedestal of concrete mixed with 0.3mm lead pellets to prevent vibrations. The wiring of the speakers is the easiest part. Each speaker on the concrete block weighs in at 150 Kg. The Spanish to English translated build notes show that if you are inspired to build custom speakers like these, then you better have a well-equipped workshop close by.

They look exactly like the Nautilus speakers from Bowers&Wilkins.
