Capture your adventures in first person by installing a helmet cam directly into ski goggles. The first person videos definitely make you feel as if you were part of the action. The workaround is simple – hack the essential parts of a helmet cam and insert it into your goggles. Something similar to than the covert spy sunglasses we’ve covered earlier.
Your mod skills will be tested in two areas:
- Disassembling the video camera to extract the main circuit board with the lens and the microphone unit.
- Binding the electronics into the goggle seamlessly.
To put the camera in place you will need the following gear:
- Soldering iron
- Dremel (or drill)
- Helmet Camera
- Ski goggles
- AA battery box
- IDE hard drive cable

Will O’Brien takes you through his design with step by step photo-illustrations on his blog. He has used an Oregon Scientific ATC3K digital helmet camera for this mod. Build one and capture your ski/snowboarding adventures from a first person perspective.
