Who doesn’t want a unique way to open their dorm room? We’ve seen loads of different ways, including RFID locks and even laser surveillance security systems.

We’ve seen a similar example of an Arduino keypad security system which used servo motors to operate the bolt. Here’s a newer version of the project:
It’s based on the Arduino and uses a stepper motor combined with bicycle gears to unlock the door. Additionally, it saves power since the lock gets its power only when it’s being used. The whole system also prevents the door from being opened normally. It’s not too aesthetically pleasing, but hey, it’s cool and unique. If this were my project I would put the keypad encoder on the inside of the door while using a RF linked DTMF encoder/decoder scheme. I would keep the RF keypad in my pocket instead of coming home to a damaged panel.
