DIY Ambient Light Systems

Here’s an awesome DIY lighting system for you. This guy set up a wicked system that can be controlled by the colors displayed on his TV (similar to Phillip’s Ambilight) or by controlling it with his BlackBerry. He used and LED-Wiz controller to control various RBG LED displays thorough the room. He also noted the flickering in the video is not as visible in real life.

Similarly, you can add (sorry, site appears to be dead) ambilight to your PC monitor. Some of the best do-it-yourself projects are ones that give you the functionality of an expensive commercial product on the cheap, and such is the case with this “Movie Mood Light” mod, which lets you endow your laptop or PC monitor with the same type of peripheral lighting found in Philips’ Ambilight displays.

See this RBG Ambilight controller as well. “This is my homemade RGB-LED controller. It is connected to the PC which lets me either change the color by hand, or the color changes to the music, or its like ambilight, the LEDs have the main color of my screen. Unfortunately the colors are not that vivid in the video. They are a lot brighter in real life.”
