When you want to go oil-free but don’t have the resources to build a DIY Electric Car, sometimes you have to settle for a super powerful electric bike. The one pictured above reaches speeds 30mph even on rough ground.
The bike frame was built from scratch to fit the power transmission system and the lithium batteries. The batteries (made up of 144 lithium ion cells) power a 48V, 3500 RPM motor. Though a step by step walk through the electric bike project is not yet available, the construction notes on the frame, power transmission system, and the lithium battery pack give some insight on the build process. We have similar projects (listed below) which feature more details on how to build your own.

True, it would be far better if it was a talented BMXer riding it.

This bike is awesome, but a bit over the top. There are some great electric mountain bikes that are already put together, for those of you who don’t want to build one from scratch.
