CNC, or computer numberic control receives commands from a comptuer which in turn instruct it to fabricate virtually any part by using a router to drill along several axis. While an insdustrial CNC can cost thousands of dollars, you can easily build your own using servos motors. Why would I want to make one, you ask? It’s similar to 3D printing, allowing you to physically create almost anything.
There are plenty of variations of DIY CNC machines online to fit your needs. Ranging from heavy duty to the bare bones:
- Perhaps the simplest of all is a hobby CNC using servos.
- CNC using a dremel and 3 axis control.
- Another dremel based system small enough to place on a desktop.
- On the more complex side is a lengthy tutorial walking you through the build.
On the incredibly complex and astounding side, the video above demonstrates a CNC machine which is attached to a hexapod robot. Learn more about this robot.
