Build an Arcade Style Gun for PC Shooters
We’ve all had the experience of playing a first person shooter (FPS) at an arcade. It’s so much more realistic than just a mouse and keyboard. With this tutorial, destroy hack your mouse, keyboard, and web cam to build your own FPS gun. Although it may looks rather ugly, slap a black case on it, throw in a few LEDs, and presto, its ready to be manufactured. Read.
The outlines for the gun are:
- must be able to control both the walking and looking of the game (keyboard & mouse)
- must have many other functional keys (space enter pause ect..)
- relatively accurate
- decent range from computer
- cheap and simple
Stuff you will need:
- an old (working) usb keyboard & mouse
- various buttons, toggle switches and LEDs (infrared) of your choice
- an old web cam (working)
- long cable containing 8 or more wires (sata will do)
- various materials (wood, plastic,metal ect)

I have seen someone do something similar by attaching an air mouse (normally used as a presentation tool) to a toy gun.
The mouse tracked where the person was looking. Extra buttons were added for movement and firing weapons.
He then went on to put a small 8″-ish monitor on the end of the gun to complete the package.
