Students at the University of Illinois have created a precision method of sorting different objects and shooting them across a room (perfect for beer pong). You’ve probably seen a similar demo in a physics classroom : a jet of compressed air keeps a ball floating above the ground. Full details are available on the U of I website including more videos and a pdf presentation on their technology.

Not only does it shoot ping ball balls, it also sorts them by color and can navigate them through a small obstacle course. The technology can be used for non-contact manipulation such as delicate or hazardous materials.
