Arduino and Ikea = Superb RGB LED Table Hack

050609_rg_shiftbrite_led_table_02[1]
Taking a stock Ikea table, this hacker added a set of 81 individually controlled RGB LEDs to the frame, creating a glowing livingroom centerpiece.  Using the Arduino, he can individually address each LED to control the color change.  Now if only it was a VU meter which bumped to the beat of your music…Perhaps that’s another project ;)

Above is a photo of the LED array beneath the table. Definitely a superb job of cable management to say the least.  More info on the project can be found on the author’s flickr page.   Finally, below is a video of the table in action.

Why so many LED DIY articles? Are you trying to get readers to buy products from your store?

It IS a VU meter that reacts to music now. A while back I added a Shifty VU Shield and some code that displays the sound level in one axis and scrolls it through time on the other axis. Someday I might take a video of it too.
