Have a spare NES controller lying around (if not, you can get them dirt cheap on ebay) What are you waiting for, shove an Apple remote inside it! Attach a few leads from the Apple remote to the pins attached to the buttons on the NES controller. Simple, yet oh so nostalgic. So, it works like this:
Left = Previous
Right = Next
Up = Volume Up
Down = Volume Down
A = Play/Pause
B = Play/Pause
Start = Menu
Select = Menu
The methods used in the tutorial are easy to follow and can be applied to shoving all sorts of stuff inside a NES controller.
